At JP Blackmoor we do more than just crunch numbers, we help businesses thrive! We are a family run business based in Devon with clients across the South-West and further afield, taking great pride in building strong, long-term relationships with our clients, offering expert support at every stage of their journey.
Why I started JP Blackmoor
I know what it’s like to feel anxious before meeting a solicitor, walking into a stuffy office, surrounded by suits, and immediately feeling out of place. That’s exactly why I turn up to meetings in jeans and a shirt.
From the start, I wanted clients to feel comfortable, open, and actually look forward to our conversations. That doesn’t always fit neatly into the corporate world of accounting, so I thought: why not build something different?
My focus has always been on long-term relationships. I want to be able to look back in 30 years and say, “I was with you from the beginning right through to the end of your business journey.”
My accounting journey
I began my accountancy career at 19, working for a sole practitioner. That gave me hands-on experience across every part of the job, from bookkeeping right up to audits.
I trained as an apprentice with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and became a qualified accountant and AAT member in 2014. After a short break from study, I picked up my textbooks again and went on to qualify with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 2022. I later resigned my ACCA membership in 2024.
With 15 years in practice and a year in industry, I knew the time was right to launch my own firm, sharing my experience with business owners across the South West and beyond.
Accountancy pet hates
The phrase “It’s only business”, I can’t stand it.
Business isn’t just business. It’s personal. It’s what supports our families, and for many of us, it’s something we live and breathe. Of course, we need resilience to handle stress and setbacks, but brushing off poor behaviour with “it’s only business” has never sat right with me.
In my spare time
I love exploring the South West with my young family. It’s also been great to get back into gig rowing in Plymouth, I’ve really missed it!
Administrator and Customer Support
Angie Douglass
I’m Angie, Tom’s partner in life and administrator in business! My role is to make sure all the compliance is up to date, deadlines are met and Tom doesn’t book in too many coffee meetings (because he loves that bit of the job the most).
My background started in working as a registered veterinary nurse for over 15 years. I then moved laterally into pet insurance as a claims assessor and worked in the insurance industry for around 7 years in total. Yes I’m that many years old!
When I’m not looking after our wonderful children I have many different hobbies including crafting, cooking, baking, rowing and walking the beautiful coasts here in the South West.
